Gabby Petito disappearance: A timeline of her road trip with Brian Laundrie

Police are scrambling to piece together the circumstances that led to Gabby Petito’s mysterious disappearance while on a cross-country road trip with her boyfriend Brian Laundrie.

The young couple set off from Long Island in July in their converted Ford Transit van — documenting their travels on Instagram and reaching as far as Moab, Utah.

Here’s a closer look as to the couple’s movements before Petito, 22, was reported missing on Saturday:

July 2

The couple start their road trip from Petito’s hometown of Blue Point, New York in their white 2012 Ford Transit van.

July 5

Petito posts her first Instagram photo of the road trip at Monument Rocks Natural Landmark in Kansas.

July 8-11

Petito arrives in Colorado and posts a photo in Colorado Springs on July 8. Over the next few days, she poses for photos at Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.

July 16 – 22

The couple hike and camp in Utah’s Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon.

July 26

Petito shares a photo of her kissing Laundrie, 23, at the Mystic Hot Springs in Monroe, Utah.

July 30

The couple arrive in Canyonland National Park.

Aug. 12

After a 12-day hiatus, Petito shares photos of the couple in Arches National Park. Police in Moab, just outside the park, respond to a 911 domestic call regarding the couple. Bodycam video shows Petito sobbing to an officer. Police report says Petito hit Laundrie but no charges are filed.

Aug. 13

Laundrie posts his last Instagram photo at Arches National Park in Utah, with a bizarre caption stating that “humans are primates, great apes in fact.”

Aug. 24

The couple check out of a hotel in Salt Lake City. Petito’s mother says she spoke to her daughter on Facetime as they were leaving the hotel.

Aug. 25

Petito calls her family to tell them she’s in Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Park. Petito post her final Instagram photo in front of the Monarch Mural in Ogden, Utah.

Aug. 30

Petito’s family say they were still receiving texts from her phone until this date. The last text she sent her mother said she didn’t have service in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming.

Sept. 1

Laundrie returns to the couple’s home in North Port, Florida with the van, which is registered in Petito’s name.

Sept. 11

Petito’s family file a missing person’s report with Suffolk County, New York authorities.

Sept. 14

Laundrie issues a statement through lawyer saying a search for Petito is underway in Wyoming. The statement said the Laundrie family were “remaining in the background” of the investigation.  Petito’s family also issue a statement accusing Laundrie of refusing to tell them where he last saw his girlfriend.

Sept. 15

Police in North Port, Florida say Laundrie is refusing to cooperate and name him a person of interest in her disappearance.

Sept. 16

Police in Moab publicly release bodycam video of them responding to the domestic incident between Petito and Laundrie from Aug. 12.
